KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is a company with traditions reaching back 45 years. It was created in 1961. Since 12 September 1991, KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. has been a joint stock company. Since July 1997 the shares of the company have been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

KGHM possesses its own copper ore deposit and its own integrated production structure, comprising three mines, two copper smelters, a wire rod plant and auxiliary units supporting the core business. Our facilities employ over 18 000 people, while in the subsidiaries which comprise the KGHM Group, another 10 000 people are employed.

The core business of KGHM Polska Copper S.A. is the production of copper and silver. Over the last several years copper production has stabilised at a level of 500 - 550 thousand tonnes annually. Annually KGHM Polska Copper S.A. produces over 1 200 tonnes of metallic silver.

In global rankings of metals producers, KGHM Polska Copper S.A. is:

•    seventh-largest amongst refined copper producers,
•    second-largest amongst silver producers.

The vision of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. is to become a major, global copper producer by increasing copper production to approx. 700 thousand tonnes.
